Reimagining Albuquerque: A City That Welcomes the Future
Albuquerque is at a crossroads. Our city has incredible potential, but too often, progress is stalled by fear, obstruction, and a refusal to embrace change. Reimagining Albuquerque exists to challenge these narratives and advocate for a city that prioritizes people, not just preservation.
We believe in an Albuquerque with abundant housing, safe streets for all users, world-class public transportation, and a thriving economy that welcomes new neighbors and opportunities. The status quo—where development is blocked, transit is neglected, and policy is dictated by a loud but unaccountable few—is not serving the people of this city. That’s why we’re here: to counter the stagnation, push for smarter growth, and offer a vision rooted in possibility rather than fear.
New Mexico has long struggled with brain drain—losing young talent, professionals, and skilled workers to other states. Many leave not because they want to, but because they feel they have to—due to a lack of economic opportunities, housing, to date, or basic infrastructure to support growth—personal & professional. This crisis extends beyond tech and industry—it impacts our healthcare system, where we struggle to retain doctors and specialists. The same anti-growth attitudes that block housing and new businesses also push away the very people we need to thrive. If we want Albuquerque to be a place where people build their futures, not just their exits, we must embrace a city that grows with them.
We challenge NIMBY narratives not just because they oppose progress, but because they’ve rarely been held accountable for the consequences of their obstruction. Policies that restrict housing, block new businesses, and prioritize cars over people have created the affordability crisis and economic stagnation we see today. Albuquerque deserves better. Call it YIMBY, call it abundance, call it pro-growth, call it organic urbanism, call it common sense — we believe Albuquerque’s best future is one that includes more people, not fewer.
This space is for those who believe in building rather than blocking, in solutions rather than scare tactics, and in a future where Albuquerque thrives, not just survives. We document the events, news, and politics shaping the city’s growth while also taking deep dives into the broader ideas, history, and policies that influence how Albuquerque evolves. Whether it’s breaking down local decisions or exploring the bigger picture, our goal is to inform, challenge, and inspire.
